Blog Post #1 Final Project Idea

The title of my opening scene is going to be “Lost.” This opening scene will begin with a girl dressed in a long white dingy skirt and a black long sleeve top. Her hair will be long, black, curly, and wet looking. Her hands will appear to be covered in blood, her neck and face as well . This will be created using fake blood. The costuming will be created by rubbing dirt and grass along the skirt to make it look distr essed. This c ostum ing was chosen because it creates the idea that the girl is to be feared. This mise e n scene creates the stereotypical idea of a scary character. The scary character that has been created is nameless to create a foreboding tone. Common character types in the horror genre include the survivor, the comedian, an authority figure , the villain or scary character, and the bystanders or the victim's friends. All these characters add to the movie's narrative. The survivor or victim is typically the character who faces the villain and makes it out alive. This character adds suspense and wonder throughout the film. This character also highlights the extreme power the monster has over the situation. The villain or scary character creates the conflict in the film. The scary character presents fear and anxiety to viewers. The comedian is often a friend of the victim. Their comedic take on the situation creates a se n se of relief for the audience. The authority figure is often a police officer or priest who try to control the situation. James Wan is a well-known director who utilizes the genre of horror. James wan has produced movies such as The Conjuring, T he C onjuring 2, Insidious, I nsidious Chapter 2, Death S entence, S aw, and D ead S ilence. James Wan utilizes the work of lighting in his films. He is known for using very dark lowkey lighting. This lighting creates a sense of fear and suspense. James also u ses a very sharp contrast between light and shadow. This use of lighting helps the audience differentiate between good and evil. Wan also uses practical lighting.
