Blog Post #5 Obstacles

Producers in the professional world face many obstacles during production. Obstacles they may face consists of budgets, quality acting, setting, weather, miss communication, scheduling, and many more. For example, the Titanic movie faced many challenges during filming. This film struggled with budgeting issues and issues with the mechanic shark. However, this did not result in the producers giving up. Instead, they worked around the obstacles to create an amazing film.

An obstacle I have already faced during the planning period is film spots. I had planned to film a scene where Alyssa is seen talking to her friends at school. However, this is not able to be accomplished due to the fact that Natalie (actress playing Alyssa) attends a different school. This became an obstacle because I was forced to rework an entire scene. Another obstacle was finding somewhere that would allow public to attend at night. The reason for this being the scene that is filmed in the woods at night. This is a problem because the mood heavily relies on the setting. The setting helps provide evidence and background knowledge for the narrative. Without being able to record in the ideal setting, I struggled to find a way to develop the narrative.

There was another complication that came with setting issues. These consisted of having many people in the background, loud noises, and unwanted weather conditions. Due to all of these variables, I had to compromise by changing the scene that took place at school. This scene was changed to a phone call where Alyssa talked to her friends on the phone to inform them. The solution for the scene in the woods was to film at Crews lake Park which allows for public after sunset. These obstacles have not stopped me from the general idea of my narrative. I have continued to compromise to make it work. This goes to show that even after obstacles, you can still continue on with production.
