This short clip shows a practice run of an existing scene in my opening sequence. This shot shows Alyssa rising from her slumber, startled at what she dreamt. This practice was used to help me decide what changes are needed and what techniques will capture the meaning I am encoding. During this clip I utilized a fast tilt to capture her feeling of terror. This cinematography technique will still be used for my final cut however, the quality will be much better, and the focus shift will not be present. The low-key lighting helps create an ominous feeling in the room. The slight light that is seen is meant to represent the idea that it is the morning. The low-key lighting will be seen again in my final cut, but the slight lighting will appear harsher as if there is a ray of light coming through the window. This will be used to show the audience that it is the morning. To create the feeling of a realistic morning, I included birds chirping in the background. In the practice shot, the birds chirping was created by playing nature sound from my tv. Although this was helpful in creating meaning, it was too loud. Therefore, in my final project the birds chirping will still be used but will be toned down slightly. To capture Alyssa's heavy breathing, I utilized mini wireless lavalier microphones. I attached this microphone to the inside of Natalie's shirt to enhance the heavy breathing. This idea was tested during the practice shot and proved to work extraordinarily well. By doing this practice shot, I have acquired useful knowledge of what works and what does not. This will strongly benefit my final project.
