Editing is the process of adding, deleting, and changing scenes. Editing is crucial in producing a solid film. In my opening sequence lots of editing will be required. Editing is used in my film to help enhance emotions. Things such as ominous background music must be edited in. This music is necessary to create the feeling of unease. The glitchy title present in the opening credits creates an eerie feeling. This is due to typical horror conventions. This effect would not be possible without editing. A common editing technique used in horror films is jump cuts. Fast and aggressive jump cuts are used to show chaos. In shot 15, Alyssa sees the scary character in the mirror. She then drops the towel she was previously drying her face with and runs to her room. The editing technique that will be used here is jump cutting. This will help the audience to understand the chaos that Alyssa is feeling in that moment.
Editing is also used to fix any errors that are made during the filming process. For reference, shots that are too long can be shortened, foley sounds may be enhanced, and colors may be adjusted. Cutting the length of scenes will allow me to ensure my opening scene stays within the time frame required. Editing holds a significant role in the production of a film.
