Alyssa carried the guilt of her best friend's disappearance for 3 years. One morning she rose from a horrifying dream. This dream is unable to be understood without the context given in blog number twenty-four.
Alyssa has a dream of a scary character swinging on a swing in a haunted setting. This scary character just so happens to be Katie. Alyssa is unaware that this character is Katie. However, she has a suspicious feeling that it could be her guilt coming back to haunt her.
This dream showcases where Alyssa and Katie spent their last moments together before Alyssa ditched her. This is important because it shows that she is guilty of what she had done. Alyssa is represented as innocent and joyous. This, however, may be viewed as a cover up. This means that Alyssa is trying to cover up her past mistakes by creating this false idea of herself.
Understanding this concept is crucial to understanding the reasoning of Alyssa's dream. Alyssa experiences this dream because she has never fully gotten over the idea that she caused the disappearance of her best friend. Alyssa never dealt with her guilt instead she quickly brushed it under the rug for it to resurface in the future. This is the cause of her dream.
If my opening sequence continued to become a movie this context would be revealed. This is not able to be done during the opening, hence why context is needed to understand the dream.
