Creating a captivating title for your production is more important than you may think. Having a unique and creative credits scene will get audiences intrigued and interested in your film. An opening title must also relate to your genre. For this reason, my credits scene is a spooky stair well including flickering lights. This tells the audience that the film, or in my case opening, will be a horror film. This is a typical horror genre convention that is seen in many horror films. Producers establish the theme in the credits to ensure that the audience understands the media they will be consuming. This ties into David Hesmondhalgh's idea that we have no connection with the media we consume. This is an issue in the realm of media. For this reason, establishing the theme in the opening will help ensure viewers are intentional and aware of the media they are consuming.
Due to this ideology, my title/ credits scene, will be an eerie staircase with flickering lights. The word LOST will begin to glitch onto the screen. This creates anticipation within the audience which engages them. The font used for the lettering is scratchy. This font creates meaning by furthering the establishment of the theme or genre. The music utilized in the credit's scene is intense and loud. This sound engages the audience which allows them to connect to the film. As the music is increasing in volume as well as pace, the words glitch whilst the lights flicker. These elements together create an immense amount of anticipation. Once the music reaches its highest point, the credits appear on the screen creating a jump scare effect. The title or credits scene establishes the mood for viewers, making it a crucial step in producing a film or opening scene.
