Blog Post #32 Target Audience

The target audience of my opening sequence, LOST, is viewers who thoroughly enjoy psychological horror films. People who enjoy suspense, underlying secrets, and dark atmospheres will be highly drawn to my opening scene. These key elements will be created through microelements such as cinematography, lighting, and mise en scene. Viewers who engage in films such as the Conjuring and Insidious will enjoy this film. This is because the producer of those films, James Wan, highly influenced decisions made throughout this process. James Wan utilizes slow tracking shots to build suspense. This idea was used within my film to deepen the tension. These similarities will draw people's attention towards my opening sequence.

My final cut will be primarily meant for people in the age range of fifteen to thirty. The scary character haunting Alyssa may cause discomfort or extremely intense fear in audiences under the age of fifteen. Additionally, younger audiences may not understand the psychology behind the film. Older viewers will likely understand why Alyssa is being haunted and maybe even relate to the fact that she has buried guilt haunting her. The intense engagement this film requires may not suit younger viewers who typically watch genres such as comedy. Understanding your target audience is significant because when trying to advertise you must reach the proper people. This also means that you must create content appropriate for the age range you are intending the film to reach.
