The cinematography used throughout my opening scene aids to create significant meaning or feelings such as fear, joy, anxiety, or excitement.
In shot 16, the establishing shot develops the setting, Alyssa's bedroom. This helps the audience understand that she is being woken up. The establishing shot also allows the viewers to see the colors as well as objects that reflect Alyssa's character. Allowing the audience to see the pink bed sheets encourages them to understand she is a bubbly joyous teenager. Another thing that represents her character is the amount of trendy objects being displayed such as the Stanleys as well as an abundance of perfumes. This is achieved through the use of an establishing shot.
The tracking shot seen in shot 17 helps progress the story by allowing the audience to see Alyssa progress through her day. This also allows the audience to understand her character better. Her outfit is revealed through this tracking shot. She is seen wearing a bright yellow shirt as well as pink pajama shorts. This tells the audience she is a generally happy person.
The two-shot present in shot 18 helps the audience understand the relationship between the characters. The closed off feeling present in both characters hints to the audience that there may be family issues occurring such as divorced parents.
The final shot shows a shallow shot. This exaggerates Alyssa's importance as well as enhances her facial expressions. The usage of a shallow shot allows the audience to focus deeply on Alyssa's tense facial expression. Alyssa maintains a straight face when explaining her dream to show that it was extremely traumatic as well as confusing for her.
The focus pull present in the last shot helps the viewers understand the significance of the statement Alyssa's mother made. The viewers may now understand that there are some family issues present due to the tone of her voice, the facial expressions, the focus pulls, as well as Alyssa's silence.
