Blog Post #44 Lighting (After Dream)

Lighting plays a significant role in creating meaning within my opening scene. This blog specifically talks about the lighting after the dream.

In shot 18 Alyssa is seen retrieving cereal from the pantry. Her mother is able to be seen in this shot. The lighting appears very bright on Alyssa to tell the audience she is happy. However, this is a cover up due to her repressed guilt as well as her parents divorce. The lighting on her mother is very dark to help the audience understand that her mother is going through some very dark times due to the divorce.

In shot 19,  The natural sunlight shining through the windows and hitting the side of Alyssa's body as she makes her cereal allows the audience to fully understand that it is the morning time. This allows viewers to fully engage and understand the plot.

Shot 20 shows Alyssa conversing with her mother. The lighting used in this shot enhances Alyssa's importance as well as her facial expressions. Alyssa is very tense and upset in this shot which caused me to have an intense beam of light on her face to draw the viewers attention to her face.

The lighting that I used throughout this production is intentional to ensure the right message is able to be decoded through the help of lighting.

Above is shot 18.
